i dont think vegas has a card that is truly integrated with it–i.e. monitoring a signal, stuff like that…

for premiere pro 2.0, the xena HS is written by Adobe if you believe in press releases…and the card is only $990 for both HD and SD. i ordered that up as i am trying out premiere and it seems like the best way to go. maybe others have different opinions.

well, if you want hardware acceleration for any or all of the compressed HD codecs, only the AJA product will do that. their support is easily the best around too…3 years unlimited phone support. cant ever go wrong with AJA.

i don’t think 4.5 would be wise since the Kona LH came out when FCP 5 was shipping.

jeremy is describing the HD10a converter–it takes the analog signal from your sony HDV so you can cross convert to uncompressed or dvcpro HD….the ADA-4 should be out soon or the cow works. hey, this is one of my exact setups!

actually you can keep your IO, use it to upconvert that analog into the kona 2….or your could go LH/LHE and have no upconvert, 4:4:4 and 2 channels of audio (8 embedded). that is the big difference….both are great cards, but the upconvert on kona 2 is the killer feature

what camera will you be working with in the HD world? if it is SDI, then kona 2 is the no-brainer…since you keep all of the IO from your IO.

the kona 2 can do HDV, from the Canon camera because it is SDI. 8 bit uncompressed 1080 hd off that lense is nice too…

for analog sources like the sony, the kona LH/lhe can take 1080 hdv to 1080 uncompressed or DVCPRO HD. 720 to 720 as well.

also, the hd10a is very popular with kona 2 owners. analog video to the hd10a, analog audio to either a flying cow (if you can find on these days) or the shortly (any day now????) shipping ADA-4.

whatever you do, try not to go HDV to DVCPRO hd in the timeline. it takes a while and the quality is not there.

you have to get SDI to the kona 2 for the RT upconvert.

i have a lovely LHE card, waiting on an atto 4Gb to arrive, though. everything appears in order, but hard to get things done with just a wimpy internal drive or firewire 800 setup….

that should work if you need three analog outputs.

all of the aja converters have the ability to work standalone, with the cards and in combination with each other…i do not use that converter, but about 5 other ones!
