[Mitch Ives] “So you’re saying that working in an unfulfilling position that you may hate is somehow okay just because you’re making a lot of money? Jeez, you sound like me many years ago, before I became enlightened and changed things in my life… “

hey man, i am ducking out of this one. whatever it is you are saying about the apple pro apps team is not what i have heard. good luck to you and the guys you are speaking with!

[Mitch Ives] “I’m not sure where you’re getting your info, but the morale in the Pro Apps division seems to be at an all time low. Many of us have been told that there are less programmers there now, than before, so your comments are interesting. The complete “head in the sand” over Blue-Ray support only punctuates this…

-the morale of the pro apps development team wont be hurt one bit when their EPP, 401k and contractual apple stock exceeds $200 because of the iPhone 2.0/3G success in driving revenue.

everything will always do what it did if you don’t update it. its just that chase for one more new feature that keeps it exciting…

the iphone has nothing to do with it, it only helps apple to be a stronger company. the zero sum total arguement might work in non-capitalist settings with finite resources…but annual revenue growth from $8 billion with 2 billion profit in 2004 to 24 billion annual revenue with over 8 billion in stated profit in 2007 doesnt not hurt FCP. i havent heard Dell fanboys talking about a pending apple bankruptcy in years! partial credit to both zune and vista on that one!

i really cant remember too many times in FCP’s history–or avid’s for that matter that dont have some degree of excitement. FCP had a very small crew and there was no pro applications division. now they have quite a suite of products and programmers who were never there before. (fcp 1.2.5 with QT 4.1.2 was finally stable…but it bloated the installer larger than 20 MB!) all of the uproar with 10.5 is nothing compared 10.3.x, 7.5.x, as well as vista and all previous service packs for windows…

looks like something in firewire changed?

new drivers are posted as of friday PM.

  • not yet, when they release drivers which explicitly state that they will, then you will have dual boot possibilities.

uncompressed is visibly better…but pro res will surprise you!

i’d get your money back and start again at square one in the selection of your monitor. i dont know how familiar you are now or will become with repair rates and timeframes.

take it to an authorized dealer or contact the factory directly.

[johnny clark] “s there any benefit to using the IOHD straight to DVD?”

i would be curious about the speed and quality of both workflows. have you compared them?

March 20, 2008 at 8:22 am in reply to: slightly OT: FW800 ExpressCard?

please note, it is my understanding that you do need to have 10.5 running on your system to use express 34 firewire cards. this is only firewire and not the esata cards. it something to do with the underlying OS and how they work.

does anyone know if this has changed?

uncompressed is visibly better…but pro res will surprise you!
