That would imply that Compressor is a separate app. Not part of the $300 FCPX perhaps.

A few more helpful sites:

Initially, the tech at the Apple store didn’t even check for a coolant leak; they just said the cpu and/or motherboard was bad.
I had to take the cpu cover off (I found instructions online) and look between the cpu and motherboard. That’s where I saw a build-up of green crust. It’s not very obvious if the coolant leak is small like mine was.
Here is the initial website I found that me started down the path to a new cpu:

That wouldn’t happen to be a liquid cooled G5 would it? My dual G5 2.7 died in 2010 and the Apple said the same thing; new cpu/motherboard etc.
I let it sit for 5 months and one day came across a website that said Apple will replace G5’s that develop a coolant leak. So I cracked the G5 open and sure enough, dried coolant was found crusted between the cpu and motherboard.
Apple put a new dual 2.7 cpu in the 5 year old machine at no cost. I never even purchased the extended warranty on it in the beginning. Amazing.
Apple didn’t lose out though, I bought a quad Intel G5 the day I was told the old G5 was toast.

Jeremy, I’ve had every version of FCP and AE back to version 3 in 1995 and have never been able to do your process. Now that I know it’s possible, I’m really interested in making it work.
My process is to make the AE clip offline in FCP, go to AE and render the new clip, then relink in FCP.
I’m currently using FCP 7 and AE CS5.

Thanks Jeremy, There simply must be a difference in how you’re set up. Is your AE and FCP on a different machine by chance?
I’m on one machine with an 8TB Caldigit HDOne. This sounds like a permissions thing, but I’m glad to know that it’s possible to do this somewhere in the world.

Thanks Jeremy, still no go. You must have some secret mojo with your computer.

Is there any trick to this? I’ve wanted to do this type of thing FOREVER, but AE sends an error message: “unable to delete existing file”
If I actually quit FCP, then AE renders fine. I’d love know your secret.

Compressor can produce Mpeg-2 Transport Streams, but only up to 34mbps. The audio can only be Mpeg-1, not uncompressed.
These settings are in the Inspector/File Format:Mpeg-2/Extras.
Your best bet may be looking into Telestream Episode.

I don’t know if this will work, but copy the sequence and make it 23.98.
Close all video gaps.
Speed up the audio track to 150%. Then change the speed back to 100%I’m assuming the video is truly 24p and doesn’t have 3:2 pulldown baked in.
