    Hi,

Im an avid assistant new to FCP. Im working on a project which has been shot on 5d at 23.98 but has been edited in a project at 29.97 ntsc. Obviously when I export from the fcp at 29.97 it loosing quality. Is there a away to transfer this sequence to what it was natively cut at?

Any tips and advise would be appreciated!

    Thanks
    Gavin

You can change the sequence settings to 23.98 and then export (CMD+0 opens current sequence settings)

    Thanks for the reply John,

I can change the Sequence timecode but it knocks the video out of sync with my audio (a single wav audio track) and introduces gaps between clips.

Now the reason I ask is that Avid can switch between 23.98 and 29.97 quite easily applying the correct pull down so as there is no loss of sync.

I was just wondering if there was a similar method in FCP or if I have to manually re-sync the audio?

    Thanks
    Gavin

I don’t know if this will work, but copy the sequence and make it 23.98.
    Close all video gaps.
Speed up the audio track to 150%. Then change the speed back to 100%

I’m assuming the video is truly 24p and doesn’t have 3:2 pulldown baked in.

FCP doesn’t do the pulldown correctly. I just had this same issue here and Joseph Owens gave a great explanation of how FCP deals with pulldown, which isn’t pretty btw, but it is very educational!
