[Craig Seeman] “Unless each computer in a facility is using Video I/O at the same time (possible but a declining situation)”

You really want to move storage and broadcast monitoring from edit suite to edit suite? Not me!

A Decklink SDI PCIe is only $295 and shared storage will save time and money in the long run now that Xsan software is free in Lion.

If Apple supports OSX on an HP Z800 without Thunderbolt… I’m eating cake!

Extensis Universal Type Server is what you want. A single font vault that serves fonts to all your clients.

Who needs Thunderbolt with 6 PCIe slots.

Thunderbolt is an “on the desk” interface, PCIe is an “under the desk” and “in the rack” interface.

I’d be thrilled with a Z800 running OSX sans Thunderbolt!

[Eugeny Korkhin] “Would be nice to reference the whole timeline…”

Yes, including any rendered parts of the timeline so a complete export is possible.

FCPX will never have Reference Movie export until AV Foundation supports it. If you want it please ask Apple for it…

[Herb Sevush] “if they don’t release new MacPros within a month can we say that the MacPro line is done?”

I would expect an EOL announcement like they did for the Xserve.

This, and the incompatibility of GPU PCIe cards via Thunderbolt expansion chassis, gives me great hope a MacPro with a couple PCIe slots is coming.

Apple’s not shy about announcing EOL of products and technology.

Discreet products are the only place I’ve seen indicators telling one an edit would result in a split cut once 3:2 was applied.

Yup the two heads of the Pro Apps team. ProRes, Xsan locations and stem export vs iMovie import and all the missing FCP 7 features.

Which head will win out? Can they coexist?

One could argue Photoshop has but then there’s Photoshop Elements.

I’ve tested Relink and it will relink shorter files to missing longer and visa versa in the timeline. This assuming the starting TC exists and is long enough to cover the range used.

I think this feature was added with the designers kicking and screaming. Such a thing should not be needed in their perfect world… welcome to reality. Let’s hope reality continues to influence Apple.

I’m with Jeremy on this. I much prefer dealing with small companies over Apple, the same way I prefer talking to a person over a brick wall.

One other feature I didn’t mention is reference movie export from FCPX. Though that would first need to be possible in AV Foundation which it isn’t currently.

I’d love to see QT open sourced by Apple.

    That’s a good list.

    I would add:

Read embedded “Reel” in QT files. It’s in the General Info view for pete’s sake!

The ability to export metadata in the xml via whatever is included in the General Info View or new XML View.

A preference that will direct Render files somewhere other than the Project folder.
