Don’t hold your breath for native support for AVCintra. The encoding proccess is way too computensive. That’s why ProRes is not H.264 based. Most hardware H.264 encoders have a 1 to 2 sec latency so software encoding is years away. Pile on the need to maintain realtime effects and it pushes it back even further.

Not sure if your cameras support this but GenLock is the answer to syncing two or more cameras. You could even use one camera to sync another, or a sync generator feeding both. You might try feeding both cameras a video signal to the input of the camera and see if there’s a “genlock to input video” setting.

Try Metadata Hootenanny it’s the iTunes for Quicktime. It will list files and display all metadata contained in the QT (selectable) including source, and TC. It will “watch” folders and update the list as movies are added on relaunch. Only drawback is it will not”see” nested folders.

Apple’s “none” codec supports uncompressed RGBA and would probably playback easier assuming your drives are fast enough.

If you’ll be using QT’s standard Metadata then you need to look at Metadata Hootenanny. It’s like iTunes for QT and will list all of QT’s metadata. Uses a watch folder system so you don’t have to “check in” media it will find any QT movies added to folders it’s watching. It won’t “see” nested folders.

CHV Electronics also has a clone plug in that handles larger dirt.

  • Given that ProRes capture is not supported on G5s, even with their superior vector processing, and that head to head comparisions of Quad G5s and Quad Intels are pretty equal, it’s not surprising ProRes(HQ) would tax a Quad Intel. Not much overhead for multiple realtime playback. Anybody wanting to do 1080 ProRes(HQ) would be wise to pony up for the eightcore.

One very cool thing that KonaTv does is play out a simultaenous alpha when playing an Apple “None” compressed movie with an alpha channel. An “Animation” movie works too depending on your processor.

Interesting I assume this is ProRes and not ProRes(HQ)?
