We recently purchased this software, but are having issues with it as it seems to be inconsistent between clips. Also, it is not a plug-in for Premiere CS4. Will report back if we get it working correctly.

I fully agree with you, Tim. I build all of my own systems (4 Primary edit workstations in the past 18 months). They are all 64 bit Vista Ultimate with 8GB of ram, Quadcore procs, etc. I have used Adobe Premiere since old version 4.1 (very old). CS4 does not crash on large projects that I work on. It has been very stable compared to the old days. There is usually something else going on somewhere that causes Premeire CS4 users issues. I did find that a recent crash problem (the only one)was fixed when bringing in 1920 x 1080 mp4 files (in a Quicktime wrapper) by turning down hardware acceleration in my display card settings. Problem solved!

At what point, when using Vegas, do you experience audio dropouts? From the timeline when previewing? Is the audio part of a video file? More info is needed.

Well, I may be able to hang on to my Matrox Parhelia display card after all. Just turned off hardware acceleration as a test, and everything is fine in Premiere. 1080i and 720p timelines (and mixed) all play just fine – no crashes! Thanks for all of your input.

I installed Quicktime Pro, but, as I expected, it did not solve the problem. After searching various threads and looking carefully at the Adobe ‘Tested and Certified’ list for display cards, I am pretty sure that the problem is my Matrox Parhelia APVE card. It’s triple heads work well for other apps, but apparently it is the culprit. Looking for a replacement, and if the new card doesn’t crash Premeire and the system, up it goes on Ebay!

John – I am assuming that if you are mixing the two different formats together, you set your project to 1920 x 1080?

What file format is the PVR recording to? There so many different file formats out there now, it is no wonder Vegas has issues with some of these. One of my HD cameras records mp4 in a Quicktime wrapper as .MOV files. They are 1920 x 1080. Even with Vegas 9.0c, after a while, Vegas stops working. The only program that I have found that can edit these or does a quick convert with multiple output choices is Vision, the rudimentary NLE found in the newer versions of Nero(DVD burning software). The 2-pass to mp4 at 1920 x 1080 is very fast, and the files look untouched(at the highest setting). The HDV ouput setting is also quite good. By the way, if I drop those same original .MOV files in the latest upgrade of Adobe Premeiere Pro CS4,it immediately blue screens and crashes.

Bluff Titler has a setting for both still and animated titles with a transparent background (alpha channel). Search for the output settings. The newest version will output up to 1920 x 1080. Be sure and set your quality setting, for the output, for best quality – not to be confused with preview settings. This is an awesome little program. I just completed an educational video opening with 3d letters for a BluRay DVD series. It looked great.

Norman – here is the link to the render benchmark tests between the HP z800 and its stablemate, the HPxw8600 that was featured in the recent Ocotber issue of Event DV magazine – https://www.eventdv.net/Articles/Editorial/In-the-Studio/In-the-Studio-HP-z800-Workstation-56534.htm. The author goes to great lengths to explain why the latest dual proc system can save a substantial amount of time. We work on multiple HD projects for clients on a weekly basis over 4 different workstations. In addition to all of the editing, we are rendering constantly. Machines like the z800 can help a busy studio meet their deadlines much easier. Since I can’t afford one of these workstations, I will have to build something similar myself. I repeat this upgrade cycle periodically. Time is money!
