October 31, 2009 at 1:21 amWhat file format is the PVR recording to? There so many different file formats out there now, it is no wonder Vegas has issues with some of these. One of my HD cameras records mp4 in a Quicktime wrapper as .MOV files. They are 1920 x 1080. Even with Vegas 9.0c, after a while, Vegas stops working. The only program that I have found that can edit these or does a quick convert with multiple output choices is Vision, the rudimentary NLE found in the newer versions of Nero(DVD burning software). The 2-pass to mp4 at 1920 x 1080 is very fast, and the files look untouched(at the highest setting). The HDV ouput setting is also quite good. By the way, if I drop those same original .MOV files in the latest upgrade of Adobe Premeiere Pro CS4,it immediately blue screens and crashes.

October 31, 2009 at 12:44 pmI have Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9 and I get the same crash when I try to edit an M2TS file from the HD-PVR.
I installed the 30-day trial of Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD and got the same result.
I then installed the 30-day trial of Sony Vegas Pro 9.0c and that app performed beautifully. It played the clip easily and rendered out to M2TS, MP4, and I even tried XDCAM – looked great.
I sent a product suggestion to Sony, asking them to add support for the HD-PVR in Platinum (I can’t afford Pro).
Please do the same if you get the same results.
BTW, Pinnacle Ultimate 12 can handle the file, but IMHO it’s not nearly as nice an NLE as Vegas.

March 21, 2010 at 3:22 amI ended up turning hardware acceleration all of the way down under the advanced setting/troubleshooting in my display card settings. My card is a triplehead Matrox Parhelia APVE. Both Vegas and Premier no longer crash when playing back these files. Go figure!
