Typically, if you did not shoot at least 10 seconds of BLACK, before stating live on a tape, then you are limited to one of two solutions.

Either choose an in-point at the head of the clip at least 5 seconds into the tape timecode or capture it as NOW. Capture Now starts capturing when the tape is moving, by setting the camera or deck to DECK function and then pressing PLAY as you start Capture Now.

You might also try resetting the pre-roll time value in Preference, but that can also give you problems.

Apple site tells us that ProRez codecs will work best with a MacPro and possibly low enough with a minimum of a Quad G5 tower.

Doesn’t seem that a 2.3 GHz box will do ProRez?

Most likely Alsoft DiskWarrior will be able to recover the directory damage on this Firewire drive successfully. In my experience this is what it does well.

It has a scavange feature that will reconstruct B-Tree link errors very well.

And also that ATI X1900 video card will not fit in your computer, unless it was the only dual 2 GHz made with PCI Express slots in the 2005 timeframe.

There are definite problems with QuickTime versions. FCP 4.5 works best with QT 6.5.2 and OS 10.4 loads QT 7.0. Many folks have tripped over this with somtimes nasty results.

I am not sure if there is a really good soultion but I need to ask, how did you get DVDSP 4 without Final Cut Studio (1)?

  • That’s a new one on me. They must have OEM’d a card from some vendor that provides on-card RAID setup. Interestingly, there must be a way to use the internal drives not connected to the SATA connections on the backplane?

Their price is about triple what you can purchase a similar card from Highpoint!

Did you recently load Final Cut Studio 2 over Final Cut Studio(1)?

If so, has it worked for you until now?

I hear that there are problems loading one version on top of another??

August 2, 2007 at 3:56 pm in reply to: HD vs. dvc pro hd

HD is a common term for frame sizes other than 4:3. There are uncompressed HD, HDV and DVCPRO HD which fit those other frames sizes.

it is my opinion to call HDV a wannabe HD as it uses MPEG-2 Long GOP recording, but since Sony is fixated on using HDV as their HD of choice, it is leading many to disregard true quality of picture for convenience.

Once again, this is my opinion – only!
