I had this happen to me a while back. As I recall, after double-clicking the dissolve I first had to drag the dissolve left or right (whichever direction you can). Then, you can change the length of the dissolve.

It’s more complicated than you think. To monitor HD you need a device like the Matrox MXO that takes the DVI signal from your MBP and turns it into viewable video. There’s no way to get video to a monitor without such a device. And you need a high-quality monitor, too. There are other options to the MXO (I only mention that since at the beginning of my editing HD I used it with a Cinema 23 monitor). Here’s an article by Shane Ross about the MXO.

Interestingly, I read a thread just the other day talking about how one of the afternoon soaps changed to shooting 24P. The audience was so upset with the look that the production changed back to 60i. Apparently, the show didn’t look “real” anymore. Go figure.

I’m not familiar with iDVD, but look for a pref or option that tells the app the DVD is 4×3 or 16×9.

Please be more specific about your problem. Does this only happen in areas of action? Can you post an image or short movie that demonstrates what you see? Describe your workflow. How’d you capture or transfer the media. What acquisition codec was used? What edit codec? How’d you export your video for encoding? How’d you encode and how did you author the DVD? What version OS & FCP and the basics of your edit system. For folks to help you out, you need to provide complete information.

Look in the Sequence Settings and see what’s listed beside Compressor. If it’s not ProRes, change it to that and render. Then Export the self-contained movie at Current Settings and use that file in Compressor to make the mv2 and ac3 files you’ll use in DVDSP.

I may not understand your question, but you can slide a transition left or right, thereby, shortening or lengthening a clip. If you position the cursor on one side of a transition, it turns into the slip or slide symbol (I don’t remember which) and when you click you can drag the transition. Of course it’s limited by the overall length of the media. Move the cursor to the other side of the transition and you can click and drag to change the transition’s length. This also works if you double-click a transition and slide it or change its length in the Transition Editor in the Viewer. However, I’m pretty sure it doesn’t ripple the change, just makes the following clip longer or shorter.

This is a complete shot in the dark as I don’t know your camera well, but it seems to me you are lowering the detail (- #s) which would lead to less distinct edges which could confuse the keyer. Have you tried increasing the detail setting to + values?
