work flow from HD to SD
Hello,
I’m taking 3/ tapes and digitizing the footage through BrightEyes 25 Analog to SDI into a Sony XDCam HD PDW-F70 deck. After digitizing I am exporting to both Blue-ray and DVD formats. However every time the sequences render the audio ends up 10 seconds out of sync. I have tried both the following sequence settings and work flows:
Frame Size – 1440×1080 with HD(1440×1080) (16:9) Aspect ratio
Pixel Aspect Ratio is HD(1440×1080)
Field Dominance is Upper (Odd)
Editing Timebase is 29.97
Quicktime Video Settings
Compressor HDV 1080i60
Quality 100%
Audio Settings
Rate 48 kHz
Depth 16-bit
Config Channel GroupedVideo Processing
Render in 8-bit YUV
Process Maximum white as Super White
Motion Filtering Quality Normal-AND-
Frame Size – 1920×1080 HDTV 1080i (16:9)
Pixel Aspect Square
Field Dominance is Upper (Odd)
Editing Timebase is 29.97
Quicktime Video Settings
Compressor Uncompressed 10 bit 4:2:2
Quality 100%

Motion Filtering Quality NormalNo matter the settings the audio is out of sync. I have tried taking the sequences both through Compressor (DVD best quality 90 minutes) and Quicktime Conversion.
If someone could explain what is wrong with the settings I am using I would be extremely grateful.

Please describe you workflow. After getting your 3 tape onto the Sony deck how did you capture them? Did you use a FCP Easy Setup? If so, which one.

I log and capture into FCP using the default settings:
Format HD
Frame Rate 29.97
USE CustomSequence Preset: Blackmagic HDTV 1080i 59.94 -10bit
Capture Preset: Blackmagic HDTV 1080p 59.94 Apple ProRes (HQ)
Device Control: Blackmagic HDTV 1080i 59.94
Playback output Video: Blackmagic 1080i 59.94 -10bit (1920×1080)
Playback output Audio: Blackmagic Audio
Edit to tape/PTV Video: Blackmagic HD 1080i 59.94 -10bit (1920×1080)

So, you are capturing as ProRes HQ. (BTW, you really only need ProRes422, but I don’t think that has anything to do with the sync). Next, do you edit your material in a ProRes sequence? Your earlier post mentioned codec settings of HDV and Uncompressed 10-bit. It appears as if your framerate settings are okay. After your edit, you should Export a self-contained QT movie Using Current Settings. Do not use QT Conversion or Send to Compressor. Take that self-contained file into Compressor and use the presets you’ve mentioned to make the mpeg-2 and ac3 for the DVD.

I’m pretty sure the sequence is in ProRes. If its not how to I change that. So export to QT then compress it so I can take it into DSP to burn to DVD?

Look in the Sequence Settings and see what’s listed beside Compressor. If it’s not ProRes, change it to that and render. Then Export the self-contained movie at Current Settings and use that file in Compressor to make the mv2 and ac3 files you’ll use in DVDSP.
