You should also Repair Disk Permissions after trashing. However, when FCP goes crazy, I trash prefs, then run Disk Warrior, and finally, Repair Permissions. This has saved my bacon countless times over the years.

It’s possible YouTube is crunching on the file and that all will appear in time. I prefer to export a master file from FCPX then use Compressor or Squeeze to make the file to upload to YouTube. This way you see each step of the process in the You Tube Video Manager.

The camera has two TRS in, so your adapters should change the stereo out of the pre to 2 TRS in. I suggest you search the Blackmagic Cinema Camera forum for posts about audio problems with the BMCC. There are recommended levels to send, and input levels to set in the BMCC. If nothing pops up, ask the question over there. I don’t own a BMCC yet in part because I’m worried about its audio capabilities and running double system adds to time in post.

One of the frustrations of FCPX. If one bit of metadata changes, FCPX considers it a new file. You can’t reconnect like in Legacy. I don’t know if anyone has a workaround, but I’d import the new files and Replace the old with the new (Replace from Start).

Michael is correct about most NLEs using 23.98 as shorthand for 23.976. However, in an app like After Effects, I believe you can set 23.98 as a frame rate and that would cause problems.

Interesting problem. If you had reversed phase cables anywhere in your setup I’d expect to hear cancellation when the signal is panned center, not off to the sides. If you have a powered speaker try plugging the cables going to the camera into it and listen to see if anything is there or what happens when you pan the inputs L & R.

I think it’s better to send line level to the MBCC. In mic mode if the level exceeds a certain point (set internally by BM) the camera automatically switches over to line input. A mic signal would then be toast. So, it’s best to just go line in. You should be aware that the BMCC currently severely rolls off the low end. It should be fine, however, for your scratch. Finally, Wooden Camera make a BMCC accessory called the A-Box. It has 2 XLR inputs and 2 TRS output cables. It make hooking up professional audio to the BMCC much easier.

Sounds reasonsble. You may have to slip & slide with Cam 3 in the edit, but it should be close. If you have breaks in your schedule, you might want to jam sync Cam 3 every hour or so.

FCP doesn’t scale well so it might make sense to use Compressor to move the HD to SD (using the same SD settings and be sure to turn on Frame Controls in Compressor and set Re-size to Best). Then you should have no renders. Although, Compressor may take a while to transcode the footage.
