You hear the audio when you are capturing. Is the problem you can’t get playback out of DCP once the clip is captured?

When you export from FCP set your in and out points and then export two files – one is QT video only and the other is aiff audio only. Export reference files to save space. Then use the ref files in Compressor. Convert the video QT file to mv2(mpeg2) and the aiff audio to ac3.

Check out Genuine Fractals at https://www.ononesoftware.com It’s a plug-in for Photoshop 7.0 or higher. Genuine Fractals converts bitmap still frames to fractal files. These files can be resized dramatically without the jaggies created by simple up-resing. This plug-in can’t create detail where none exists, but the results in the 400-500 percent blow-up range are often significantly smoother and less blocky than enlarging a pixel-based file.

Many DVD players will also play audio CDs. If it decodes DTS on a DVD it might do it for a CD. Just a thought.

  • I own a pmd670 and it’s been great. I’ve recorded everything from voice to screamming race cars.

I’m not sure what’s causing your problem. A couple things to check out: Try a couple of different mics to rule out that as a problem. I’m not at the office so I can’t look at the unit and tell you specifically how to do this, but make sure your sample rate is set properly. There are a lot of choices and if it’s set up with low sample and bit rate you would hear more noise. Again, I’m not sure if you can switch off the phantom power, but check to make sure it’s on if you’re using a phantom-powered mic.

Besides all the settings in the Preset Menu there are a bunch of switches hidden under a panel in the upper right corner of the recorder that’s held on by two screws. When you take off the cover you’ll see the labels. There’s an input pad control under there, If it’s set to -20 you might be hearing noise because you’re increasing the gain to compensate for the much lower signal going into the unit.

That’s all I can think of at the moment. Hope it helps.

I have a PMD670 and I looked through its menus to see if there might be a setting that would contribute to the problem you were having. Nothing obvious turned up. However, there is a 20db pad switch hidden under the panel on the top right that’s held in place by two screws. THe pad is either on or off. If it was off, try switching it on. That way you’ll attenuate the input signal by 20db. If the mic is overdriving the input pre, perhaps the pad would help eliminate the distortion.

December 18, 2005 at 4:25 am in reply to: what is that thing called?

It’s called a wireless mic. The transmitter is hidden somewhere on the talent’s body and there’s a receiver at the recorder or camcorder. The mic can be hidden or visible depending on you want.

If you search this forum and the Final Cut Pro forum you’ll find lots of discussion about different wireless mic products. Look in your area for a pro audio and/or video dealer who can help you out.

I’ve never had an issue with a set top player. The rare problem has been with computers playing the DVD. We always use DVD-Rs from Taiyo Yuden.
