  • Can you export to a Windows Media File?

I often e-mail clients compressed versions of their spots by exporting with compressor with a really low quality, 15fps, mpeg codec. This makes a 30sec into like 500kbs, a good size for e-mail. (Quality isn’t a big deal, this is just so they can get a general idea of what we have produced.) However, most clients are using Windows PC’s and don’t have Quicktime. How can I export a movie that can be viewed with the Windows Media Player? (I tried exporting a Quicktime AVI file and that didn’t seem to work for my clients.)

Not without a third party codec or a PC. You can use MPEG1 but this is a decision that requires experimentation to determine if the quality is acceptable.
This question comes up weekly around here so search for a series of suggestions and soruces for WMP export options. We have Flip4Mac Suite ($150, I think) but there are others.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
