Where’s the audio on MPEG-2?
Posted by Alexander Gao on December 28, 2005 at 1:31 amI used compressor to encode my project to MPEG-2 video. How do i get audio with it? Is this possible??? I’m very confused.
Thanks, Alex.

December 28, 2005 at 5:30 amIn Compressor, you must encode the audio separately if you’re encoding into mpeg 2 for DVD projects. Check the menu under “Setting”, you’ll see that you have a number of choices. As a rule of thumb, I usually refer to the manual for instructions if I’m unsure.

December 28, 2005 at 6:03 pmDVD Studio Pro does this automatically. All you have to do is drag both the mpeg 2 file and the audio file on to the track. However, if you’re using iDVD, what you should do is export your sequence in FCP as a QuickTime movie (video and audio), then drag that movie into your iDVD project. iDVD will do all of the encoding for you.

December 28, 2005 at 6:04 pmWhen you encode the video and audio with the same ins/outs the sync is automatic. You just throw them in the track.
Have a wonderful day.

December 28, 2005 at 7:25 pmWhen you export from FCP set your in and out points and then export two files – one is QT video only and the other is aiff audio only. Export reference files to save space. Then use the ref files in Compressor. Convert the video QT file to mv2(mpeg2) and the aiff audio to ac3.
