I am new to FCP and am having a problem with my audio. No matter how I set the Easy Setup, I can only get audio through my tower.
I have an AJA Io box and when it’s hooked up, I set the audio output to IOPRO and the audio still playsback in the tower. When I have firewire connected to my DVCAM deck and the settings set to NTSC DV and audio playback set to firewire, the audio plays back in the tower.

What the heck is going on?

When the AJA is hooked up via firewire, I have my deck connected via component video and XLR audio. The XLR outputs are connected to my mixer and it is connected to my amp, which is hooked to my studio monitors.

When the AJA is not connected, I have firewire connecting my deck (Sony DSR-45)and the deck is switched from component to DV. The audio is still playing back in my tower.

Oh yeah. When I open my capture window with either connection and playback the tape in the deck, THEN I get audio on my studio monitors.

Why can’t I playback audio anywhere but my tower?

You hear the audio when you are capturing. Is the problem you can’t get playback out of DCP once the clip is captured?

Yes. When I playback my timeline or preview window, my audio plays in my tower. Nothing is playing back through firewire.

Everything is hooked up properly and I’ve looked through Audio/video settings to check for an incorrect setting , but can’t find anything wrong. It should be playing back on my external video monitor and speakers, but it;s not.

Do an easy setup with one of those AJA settings eg. AJA YRB to DVCPRO50…..check under edit Video and Audio playback…. remember to turn off your firewire deck first and even remove the firewire. Video playback should set to one of those AJA settings … audio should follow video not firewire. Make sure it is playing all frames…a setting that is above the video and audio plaback …(can’t remember now!). It is also better to use the easy setup after your capturing and then quite the application. Start app. again and redo easy setup without the firewire deck connection(off is better). Then check the audio and video under edit.
    Hope these help for now.

Can try using a R422 9 pin cable to the AJA control for remote and use SDI output from your deck. Less problem.

    Cheers!
