I don’t remember what audio plugins come with FCP 5.1 or if it includes SoundTrack Pro which definitely has some useable plugins. What you should play with are Modulation effects, Phase effects, Pitch effects and Ringing effects. They all change the audio in different ways. This will lead to more of an electronic sound as opposed to a character sound. If character is what you’re looking for you’re probably better off hiring an actor than using software to change a voice. The actor will bring more value IMHO.

You mentioned importing the CONTENTS folder. Actually, I believe you want to capture the folder that contains the CONTENTS folder and the LASTCLIP file.

Be sure to pack the drive the same way it was shipped to you. If you really want to be careful, put the drive box inside a larger box and surround with packing peanuts.

Be sure to keep a backup at your shop until your client receives the drive and confirms the data is good.

As for drive recommendations, we use G-Techs. I have used LaCies with no problems, but stopped after hearing too many horror stories.

You might be able to “clean” the interference with iZotopeRX. I’ve never done it for Blackberry interference, but I’ve used it many times to clean up various type of interference on phone lines.

We have the Panny 1700 and also a MXO + ACD. Before we got our new monitor, we edited with the MXO + ACD. I put the Panny beside it as a test and they were very close.

1 ATI HD 3870 card hooked to 2 Cinema 23s. Any thoughts are appreciated. I’m going to switch back to the original card (2600)when I have a moment (hopefully tomorrow) to see if the problem’s card related.

Without timecode I suggest the old-fashioned approach to use a slate with a clapper. That may be easier when syncing video & audio in post than comparing audio tracks.

Are you set to render in 8-bit YUV in the Sequence Settings>Video Processing tab? I seem to recall some posts awhile back about folks having render issues and that fixed it.

  • We carry a cable ground lift adapter which is a barrel with XLRs on each end with the shield pin disconnected on one end. Many people don’t realize that only one end of a shielded cable needs to be connected for it to work as a shield. However, it’s important that the connected end of the shield is attached to a solid ground.

In our studio we use a star-point grounding scheme. All the chassis of all our gear are directly grounded to one star point. And all the gear use a/c ground lifts to avoid ground loops. Shields are connected at the gear-end of all cables and left open at the other end. In our case that’s the console, which is also a/c ground lifted and chassis grounded to the star point. If you really want to go crazy also use a power conditioner like an Equi=Tech. Then you can crank up the knobs and hear virtually nothing.
