Please recommend Voice Changing Software
Posted by Mary beth Koplin on November 23, 2008 at 5:16 pmI have a fun project underway, and want to do a voice over, but I need a ‘caricature’ type voice. Can anyone recommend a suitable software? (perhaps free download 🙂

November 23, 2008 at 7:45 pmI don’t remember what audio plugins come with FCP 5.1 or if it includes SoundTrack Pro which definitely has some useable plugins. What you should play with are Modulation effects, Phase effects, Pitch effects and Ringing effects. They all change the audio in different ways. This will lead to more of an electronic sound as opposed to a character sound. If character is what you’re looking for you’re probably better off hiring an actor than using software to change a voice. The actor will bring more value IMHO.

No need to be humble. You have great opinions.
Soundtrack pro does have a formant shifting voice changer. I used it to do a duet with myself on a read of Malvina Reynold’s “Little Boxes.”
Hear it here: https://idisk.mac.com/tyreeford-Public/LittleBoxes.mp3
John’s right, though, getting a good character requires talent. I happen to be an AFTRA/SAG voice talent. Even with effects, it helps to have talent make the basic voice happen. If you get down to needing to pay someone, let me know. If done all sorts of character voices.

Ty Ford

November 24, 2008 at 6:48 pmHey Mary Beth,
AFTRASAG rates depend on how the piece is used. If you want to call me, I’m on the east coast. 410.296.2868
If it’s LD for you. Call and give me your number and I’ll call you back.
If I’m not the person for the gig, I have a pretty wide network of other talent.
Thanks,
Ty Ford
