S-video connectors come in different configurations. Here’s some info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S-Video Maybe all you need is a 4-pin to 7-pin adaptor.

Your omni mic idea might work better if you seat the students in anc arc rather than a straight line. If they are equidistant from the mic each will sound about the same (assuming they all speak at the same relative level). Using 2 mics might be better. You still might need a mixer to optrimize performance. It’s also possible the omnis will pick up your voice as well.

You are correct in thinking a shotgun will have a tight pattern. These patterns vary among different mics. Also, good ones are expensive.

Is there an av dept. in the school? It’s possible they’ll have some equipment you can use.

I’m not familiar with the 100B, but other camcorders have a switch that either feeds the mic input or the “tape” output to the headpone jack. If you monitor the “tape” there will be a slight delay compared to the mic in.

I have a SD302 preamp, but perhaps the Mix-Pre is set up similarly. If you feed the “tape” out from the camera to the monitor in of the pre you can then switch between the mic ins to the pre and the “tape” out of the camcorder.

If your objective is to have a flv with an alpha channel you need to use the On2 VP6 plugin with your flv encoder. I do all my flv encoding in Squeeze which has it. I’m fairly certain it is included with Flash Encoder, too. You would take your animation codec + alpha clip into the encoder and make your flv. Once you have the flv with alpha you can drop that (in Flash) over any Flash background.

Who’s the manufacturer and what’s the model? Did your search turn up any specs on the monitor? I’m sure there’s a way to get a signal to it, but we need more info.

I’m not a DP, but I think strobing and flicker are used interechangeably by many people. I don’t know if technically they are the same. You might post on the cinematography forum to find out. https://forums.creativecow.net/forum/cinematography

  • First make sure you have the correct DVI cable. There are a number of flavors. That said, the converter may not like the DVI out of your Mac or your Mac may not recognize the converter. The fact you don’t see the converter in the AV settings doesn’t sound good.

You might want to try an inexpensive i/o card like the Intensity Pro that has analog i/o and HDMI. https://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/intensity/
