You might get more info about subtitles on the DVDSP forum, although, you probably won’t find any offers to share. https://forums.creativecow.net/forum/appledvdstudiopro

March 13, 2009 at 10:00 pm in reply to: Convert 720p30 to SD (480i)

I recently had to deliver SD files of a DVCPro HD 720P24 shoot. After editing the HD program, I exported a QT of it (File>Export>Quicktime Movie). I made it a self-contained movie. Then I opened that file with QT Player and used it to Export a DVCPro50 file (Framerate Current (24), Quality high, Scan Mode Prog, Aspect 16:9, Size 720×480, Audio sample rate 48k, bit depth 16 and stereo). The result worked perfectly. In your case since you shot 30P I don’t think you need to add pulldown as you would to take 24P to 29.97. I’ve not shot 30P so have no direct experience with it. Why not try my method and then import the result into FCP and view it on your SD monitor. That should show you whether it’s working or not. If you want interlaced SD most SD codecs are lower field first.

Using a MBP and Duel adaptor, we xfer 16GB with Shotput P2 in about 12 minutes with verification. Also, if you set in and outs as you log and transfer, as soon as you add a clip to the queue you can start looking at the next clip. Works very fast.

March 6, 2009 at 9:56 pm in reply to: recording a live band on the hvx

It’s very important to understand how the audio flows through your camera. There is an audio amplifier that comes BEFORE the volume control. If you feed very loud audio into your camera (either from the internal mic or an external mixer) and adjust the meters so they’re not in the red, you can still have distorted sound because the dials are not affecting that first amplifier.

This is why the best way to check your sound quality is to record some audio during a rehearsal or sound check and then play it back. If it’s clean, you’re good to go. If not, with an internal mic you’re out of luck, but with a mixer you can turn down the output of your mixer and turn up your dials on the camera. A good rule of thumb is if you have the volume controls turned down low (under 1/2 way) you’re probably in trouble.

I’m not in front of my Mac, but I think theses are the correct steps. Start the Disk Utility app. You’ll see all mounted drives on the left. Highlight you startup disk and click the First Aid tab. Down below you’ll see the Repair Permissions button. Click it.

There’s one other diagnostic program you can try: Disk Warrior. If anything funky is happening with your drive(s) Disk warrior will fix it. It’s an indispensable program for the Mac.

I’m not sure if that deck can play 23.98 tapes. Have you tried capturing from the camera? Do you see audio when the tape is played in the camera?
