Convert 720p30 to SD (480i)
Hi all,
My footage was shot in DVCPro HD 720p30, and my sequence is the same. The spot will air locally (small market) in HD and SD, depending on the capabilities of the TV station. What is the best way to create a 480i file? If it’s Compressor, please explain (I’m new to it). Is pulldown necessary? The file must be delivered as Quicktime. Tape is not an option.

I recently had to deliver SD files of a DVCPro HD 720P24 shoot. After editing the HD program, I exported a QT of it (File>Export>Quicktime Movie). I made it a self-contained movie. Then I opened that file with QT Player and used it to Export a DVCPro50 file (Framerate Current (24), Quality high, Scan Mode Prog, Aspect 16:9, Size 720×480, Audio sample rate 48k, bit depth 16 and stereo). The result worked perfectly. In your case since you shot 30P I don’t think you need to add pulldown as you would to take 24P to 29.97. I’ve not shot 30P so have no direct experience with it. Why not try my method and then import the result into FCP and view it on your SD monitor. That should show you whether it’s working or not. If you want interlaced SD most SD codecs are lower field first.
