You should always use a different drive for your media than the drive that holds FCP. It could be an external drive or an internal one. Your drive should be formatted Mac OS Extended not journaled. While the OS can talk to a FAT32 drive, it’s size-limited to 4GB which isn’t good for longer programs. If you intend to cut HD then you probably want a RAID drive for your media. Look at the ads to the sides of the forum or search the forum and you’ll find many good solutions.
It’s always helpful to describe your system and what version of OS & FCP you’re using. What do you do want to do with your exported file?
