Any of the Panasonic P2 cameras will to what you want. And also cameras like the HMC150. Cameras like the HMC150 need the latest version of FCP. Avoiding rendering has a lot to do with your initial sequence settings. If they are off, FCP will want to render. Drag a clip into a new empty sequence and let FCP select the proper settings.

Most likely this is a drive issue. You should never put your media on the same drive as FCP. Use a fast external drive and see what happens.

My experience, too. Two years using the Duel without a problem. I suspect ones that have had problems are not mechanically kind to the adapter.

If you know what your delivey format is then make that your sequence frame rate convert the other footage to that using Compressor. Search this forum and the FCP forum and you’ll find many posts about how to do this.

That’s one of those annoying in little things about FCP. If you want the timeline to scroll with the cursor you need to do it manually. Maybe some day in a new version this will be possible.

  • Rafael, thanks for your kind words. I’ve read many of your posts over the past couple of years and have benefited from your knowledge and experience. BTW your idea about the XLR connector was a good one. An improperly wired XLR on one side (channel 1 or 2) will put the signal 180 degrees out of phase. It’d be the first thing I’d check since it’s easy to open the connector and check which wires are going to which pins. If there’s a patchbay involved, that’s a bit more involved.

I just saw this listing on eBay. I have no idea if it would work, but check it out. https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320266127692&ssPageName=ADME:B:WNASIF:US:1123

We have a HPX500 and it has a power connector on it just for that use. I’m guessing its big brothers have that, too. Or check out the Anton Bauer site for all sorts of battery mounts and accessories.

A card reader is the fastest way to do this. Using FW or USB from the camera will work fine, but ties up your camera. We always transfer off the P2 cards in the field and use a Duel Adaptor and Shotput P2 with our MBP onto a mirrored RAID drive and another separate drive that becomes our backup. Offload of a 16GB card with verification takes about 12 minutes.

I don’t know that camera, but on our HPX500 there’s a SAFE switch that will do what you describe when turned on. I freaked the first time that happened. Look for something like that on your camera and turn it off. It’s supposed to be a power saving function.
