Viewer/Timeline playback
I’m editing footage that was shot with a Panasonic SDR-H200, with a 3CCD chip, with MPG4 format, on a MAC Book Pro, with FCP. My problem is when I play a clip in the viewer, the video moves slow or choppy, and doesn’t match up with the audio. The same thing happens when it’s played back in the timeline. Does anyone have any suggestions on what the problem is and how it can be fixed? And, does my hard drive space available (4.62 GB) have anything to do with my problem?

Most likely this is a drive issue. You should never put your media on the same drive as FCP. Use a fast external drive and see what happens.

4.62 gig left on what size drive? Also, how much ram do you have?

FCP doesn’t like to edit that format. You need to convert to a format that you see in the EASY SETUP list. If this is HD, then choosing ProRes or DVCPRO HD when you convert is a good idea. Use MPEG STREAMCLIP to convert.
Or…how did you import? Via Log and Transfer? It might already be ProRes, in which case you need a fast enough drive to handle that format.

Ohhh. I did use MPEG Streamclip to convert my .mpgs to .mp4s. As far as import, I have all the converted files in a folder on my external hard drive (WD 500GB), in which I imported(using CMD + I) each clip, one at a time. What the best format I should use to convert .mpgs to edit in FCP?

DV/NTSC or DV50. Try DV/NTSC first. NOT .DV Stream.
