IMHO, if you really want these cameras to sync throughout your program you should run reference and timecode to each. The AJA Gen10 https://www.aja.com/products/converters/converters-hd-gen10.php has multiple outputs (so no DA is needed) and will generate SD or HD sync. If the cameras don’t accept sync, use Rick’s approach. Since you have three options when you cut, you can always adjust for drift, but once you start slipping or sliding tracks, you’ll lose the speed of synced multitrack editing.

When FCP suddenely gets weird I trash prefs, repair permissions and run Disk Warrior.

We use Sorenson’s Squeeze to encode flvs. We export a QT and use that in Squeeze. However, if your web designer has Flash CS3 or 4, Flash Encoder is included. Just give him a self-contained QT and he can use Flash Encoder to make the flv. Only possible issue is whether his computer can “see” your QT. If you’re on Mac and he’s PC this could be an issue. If you’re both on Mac you should be good.

If you export a QT from FCP and don’t check Recompress Frames (I think that’s it – I’m not in front of FCP) the export is not recompressed. I know in the past there were problems sometimes sending a seq to Compressor. I always export a ref movie for Compressor. Check the export before using Compressor. If that’s in sync and Compressor produces files out of sync try trashing Compressor’s prefs. If the exported QT is out of sync you could try trashing your renders and re-rendering. If you haven’t trashed prefs and repair permissions do that first. Also, run Disk Warrior.

Fid you use a fresh tape? It’s possible there’s a snippet of some other format at the head. Are you capturing from the camera or a deck? If you’ve got both, try the other. Can you do a Capture Now?

Don’t expect high quality unless the flv was made with a high bit rate and in the correct resolution.

  • What format is playing from the web? Into what form did you encode your footage from FCP? When encoding what bit rate did you use? What size is the final image?

Trash preferences and repair permissions. You can search the forum to find out how. Is your media on an external drive? Has this happened before? Alsp, it helps if you describe your system: what computer, what OS, which version of QT, which version of FCP, capture card or box, etc.

I believe you can also shoot DVCPro50 (SD), too, which will give you much higher quality. DVCPro50 will handle graphics & text much better than DV25.

Try exporting the show as a ref or self-contained QT movie. Then bring that into Compressor. However, if your audio & video are out of sync in FCP, you need to fix that. Have you trashed prefs & repaired permissions?
