Soundtrack Pro might allow you to do this (and group tracks to a submix). I’m not very familiar with STP as I use Pro Tools, but I’m sure they share similar functionality. In Pro Tools you can use side-chain compression, limiting, gating, etc. by feeding a signal from one track, say your VO, to a compressor/limiter/gate on another track (or submix), thereby affecting that track. I agree with Thax. Test, test & test. Record a couple of bands before the ones that count. One of your biggest challenges will be adjusting your record levels properly so the signal to the camera isn’t clipped (distorted) when the band gets loud.

Read this thread, but do what Raphael suggests in his 2nd comment near the bottom. In your sequence settings > Render Control, make sure the quality is set to Best.

When you twirl down the audio arrow is the audio level at 0.00dB? If not, change the level to that and see if the audio & waveform return. If that’s not it, I’m baffled. Maybe try posting this in the AfterFX forum.
