I am going to be editing some footage shot on the HVX 200 in 16:9 SD, the footage will then be dumped to a external firewire drive and given to me to edit, my question is can I use my G5 dual 2.5 to edit this ? or does it have to be intel ? I have a 20″ 2.0 dual core i-mac also, so I can edit it on my imac if need be, do I have to do some special conversion or can I just import the footage in FCP and start editing ?

I own two DVX100P’s and I mostly shoot in the F5 setting, the setting that looks like film or 24P but is not (F6 is the true 24P setting on that camera) my question is, my friend is shooting some footage for me this weekend with the HVX 200 and I would like if possible for him to shoot in that same mode that I use on my DVXP F5, I don’t want 24P, just the look like in the DVX100, can the HVX 200 do this ?? what setting is it ? also I want him to shoot in 16:9 standard def, this is for a client, they will be viewing this on a HD T.V., if he gave me the footage in 16:9 standard def, I want to just take into final cut and use the NTSC 48KHZ Anamorphic timeline, then take it into DVD studio pro and use the 16:9 settings, when I give it to the client, the DVD should play with the 16:9 look and fill his whole screen and the aspect ratio look correct, am I correct ?

Yes you can edit DV25 footage with a G5.

Yes. To shoot 16:9, set the camera to squeeze.

Check out the manual and see ALL the things the HVX200 can do.

so my cameraman can shoot in DV25 mode in 16:9 mode, standard def, on the P2 card and dump the footage on my hard drive and I will be ready to edit ?

I believe you can also shoot DVCPro50 (SD), too, which will give you much higher quality. DVCPro50 will handle graphics & text much better than DV25.
