Is your audio mono or stereo? It’s possible you could have audio only on ch 2 and a mono dvd player might not play that, or a stereo player might have a cable problem on that channel.

If the 25fps is PAL and the 29.97 is NTSC, the best way is to hire a facility with a Teranex to convert the NTSC to PAL. This can be done with Compressor, but won’t be as good as the hardware solution. There are threads on the Cow that explain how to use Compressor for the conversion. Search for “Convert PAL to NTSC.”

If you shoot 24P, typically you get a 29.97 (59.94) file with pulldown added (24 over 60). If it’s 24PA, when you capture or transfer, and remove the advanced pulldown, you get 23.98 (23.976). The reason 23.98 looks the same as the 29.97 is FCP adds pulldown to the 23.98 timeline as it plays.

If FCP set your sequence settings when you dragged in the first clip and it shows a timebase of 23.98 then the clip must have been shot 24PA.

Lower the data rate (kilobits per second) until the file is the size you want (probably under 10MB). Depending on the content, you can also lower the frame rate to 15fps. Both will reduce your file size.

If you didn’t repair permissions on your drives, try that. Don’t trash your media files. What I was suggesting was to trash your renders with Render Manager (in the Tools menu). Also, I’d disconnect all the external drives except for your scratch drive. I’ve had problems with 2 FW drives connected at the same time. It depends on the drive. Sometimes using two is fine, but other times, not.

If none of that helps, try exporting segments of the program to find the problem segment. Export 30 seconds or a minute at-a-time. When you come to a segment that hangs, then you know where the bad media is. You can then divide that section into smaller pieces to find the bad file.
