Did you Capture the DVD by playing out of a player or by using a program like MPEG Streamclip to rip it off the DVD? Is the footage on the DVD 16×9 or do you want to enlarge and crop a 4×3 image to make it 16×9?

I believe Premiere Pro or Soundbooth CS4 has a program that does this. I think I read a review a while back on the Cow about that. Try a search on the Cow for “audio to text” or “speech to text” and something should pop up.

What kind of HD? Does your sequence settings match the clip? Do you see any colored lines over the video track? Also, what version of FCP are you using and what kind of Mac? It’s always helpful if you provide as much information as you can about your system and workflow in your post. It helps folks better help you.

Our HPX500 records 4 channels of audio. We set chs 3 & 4 3db lower than 1 & 2 to protect against clipping. Each is a discrete channel and could be totally different content. I just finished an edit where I chose to use chs 3 & 4 when I transferred, since 1 & 2 were a little hot and might clip. Do what works best for you. I suggest you transfer one clip and listen to the chs you transferred play back in mono. That way you can make sure the chs are in phase and not canceling each other.

What drives are you using and how are they connected to your Mac? Do you have a Kona or similar card/io box? Even if you don’t have a Kona I think you can download their System Test from the AJA site. It measures your drive speed which could be a factor.

Did you update all drivers that might not be happy with SL? Did you Repair Permissions after your installation? Also, it might help to run Disk Warrior. It cleans up your disk directories and that definitely affects performance. You especially need to do this after a major installation.

Does the blue happen on the testimonial track or the bug track? I assume Looks was on the testimonial. You might try nesting the clips and then fading the nest.

Do you see flickering if you apply a dissolve rather than keyframing the opacity? Is the video interlaced or progressive and what’s the frame rate? How are you monitoring? Is this for broadcast, DVD or web?

What if you select the clip in the timeline, make it an independent clip and then reconnect? Then, I think, it won’t reference other clips any more.

I’m not clear what you’re doing. Is all the footage SD? Are you putting 29.97 footage on track 2 in a 23.98 sequence and getting jumping? Or, in your 29.97 seq with archivals you’re getting jumping when any track 2 material is added regardless of its frame rate? What are your seq settings in all cases?
