FCP won’t create a transition without enough media in the clips. If you try to transition from the absolute last frame of clip 1 to the absolute first frame of clip 2, FCP will say there’s not enough media. If you drag the end of clip 1 to the left a half-second and the start of clip 2 a half-second to the right, FCP will happily create a 1-sec transition.
I’ve never seen your example of stretching the transition and getting the resulting fade to & back from black. But it makes sense. FCP is doing the only thing it can with the media. It fades to black by the time clip 1 ends & fades up from the start of clip 2.
If you don’t have enough media at the end/start of a clip, try using a freeze of the last/first frame and transition with that media. Experiment with the duration of the transition to find the one that looks best.

Fairlight uses Audio Units and VST audio plugins. Most audio plugins offer both AU and VST options when installing.

I think if you select the CC in the timeline, then > Reference New Parent Clip and the new CC appears in the Browser.

I agree with the other answers about having your media on fast external SSDs. Most size recommendations for an internal SSD are to have at least twice the amount of space you’ll need for the system and apps. I have an M1 Mac Mini with over 300GB of apps & OS, so chose a 1TB SSD.
Your 14” MBP will have 3 Thunderbolt ports, each with its own controller which means 40Gbps for each. As another suggested, a Thunderbolt hub will breakout all the connections you’ll need. I have the OWC TB hub which has 3 TB ports (a 4th is the connection to your computer) and a USB port.
I believe Hyper just released a hub that plugs into the two TB ports on the left and splits out 7 or 8 connectors including an HDMI ( I think). When I saw it, they were offering a big pre-order discount.

I’ve had very good results using Waves’ MaxxBass. It calculates the precise higher harmonics that are related to the fundamental bass frequencies of the program material. Adding the harmonics gives a natural perceived increase in the bass content without actually adding more bass energy or muddying up the sound.

I have no idea why this is happening, but a workaround would be to export a master file from AE (using the same codec as the source media) and use that in Media Encoder.
