I’ve used a scanner that came with a slide holder specifically to scan slides. Use the highest possible resolution when scanning. If the resulting image is too small to work with, check out Topaz Labs’ Gigapixel AI. It will uprez a file up to 6 times the original resolution, at the same time correcting for noise & blur. The results are great. Most times, the uprez looks better than the original. I own a number of Topaz Lab programs. They have free trials, so you can check it out before purchasing. Also, they constantly update their models every few months, so the results keep improving.

If you are able to cut out shorter regions that contain the audio from your long clip, you might be able to sync those short, individual clips using FCP’s sync capability or Plural Eyes. I’ve never had to do that, so can’t say how to do that. Perhaps, if you export the audio from your timeline so you have a single clip, you could then sync the shorter clips to that.

I agree with Bill. I always change the name of the older library to “old-library name” and save it until I’m finished with the project.

Another thought is if you’re not shooting in ProRes, consider transcoding to it. FCP is smoothest and fastest when using ProRes. Maybe do a test and see if that helps.

First off, 4K has 4 times the data of 1080P. That may be causing your playback issues. As for your battery checkout this article on Apple Support about batteries.

The way I’ve done this with stock & music tracks is to download the clip, then create a Compound Clip of it. Then, I edit the CC. Later, when the client has approved the music or stock, I drop the licensed clip into the CC in the Browser or timeline & Replace From Start. In the case of music, you may need to tweak your levels.

My suggestion is an SSD. I use two m2.NVMe SSDs with a M1 Mac Mini. I use HDDs for archiving. SSDs are much faster than HDDs. But, don’t be confused by the max data rates that are published for a SSD. The Thunderbolt 3/4 I/O is limited to around 1500MBps. My SSDs are rated at 3000MBps, but only when used with a fast PCI I/O, typically, where you can plug the SSD directly into a desktop or laptop computer.

Hi, Ty. You may already have Wave Agent from Sound Devices. One of its functions lets you reset the metadata of audio files from 23.976 to 29.97 or other fps. Although, audio hasn’t frames, resetting the metadata of the audio file may enable easier syncing. It’s worked for me and is a lot faster than changing the video.

Are you viewing in full resolution? I just had a similar issue in FCP. It was driving me crazy. But, when I rendered the file it was fine. I was using Hawaiki <b style=”font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; -webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;”>Keyer 4.5.

In Audio > Effects > Levels there’s an effect called Gain which should do what you want.
