After you make your shape editable, select the points tool then right click on the object and select knife. In the Options attribute of the knife tool, unclick visible Only. Now your should be able to cut it into full not just surface.

I didn’t quite get the effect that you wanted but it is a start that might help on later? Maybe?

What I did was took both your pillows and connected them. then added the cloth tag and set it to self-collision under expert setting.

It worked for a while. but once both pillows settled down they still went into each other.

Like I said, it might be a start that leads to something else?

Here is my version of your file. I hope you come up with an answer. I just know that I’m going to have to be using this technique pretty soon.

    Thanks for your reply.

I kind of figured this out, 7 hours after my post.. I was searching everywhere. and I mean everywhere to find this answer..

If you are to set it to any cordinate X,Y,Z or World on the top toolbar.. you have to drag the object on the object. Do not move it on any of the axis arrows. Because it will still be moved in that direction.

Null object is a good way to do it but kind of time consuming. Placing the null then positioning it to that object ect…

Ortho views don’t do anything but move it relative to the new cordinates.

  • OMFG!!!!! I never knew you could do all that stuff with the dynamics
module.. wow!!! I’d been reading up on that and it is remarkable.

I put the objects in a Solver then added the rigid dynamics modifier
to it and wow!!! very cool stuff here. Of course to get that frame
that I needed I added a bake dynamic and wow!!!

Dude you are like the best for guiding me to all this stuff. I love
    you man..

Don’t tell your wife I said that.

    Hey Alejando,
That was a very awesome Demo Reel. And yes that is the effect that
I am aiming for. Mograph is too clean to do this because it makes
the effect look automated and that is not what I want.
Hand keyframing and gravity as oppose to expresso automation.

The effect that I’m trying to accomplish with my animation is
something similar to how the Discovery Channel was doing their
graphics a while back. With white text that kind of transformed
into other text through just scale and position.

I think you can also find this effect of text through the show
“Big, Bigger, Biggest” on the Nat Geo channel.

I was thinking about doing what you said earlier also but was trying
to save time by not having to go through the process of sewing
the cut up pieces together. But as I see now maybe I’m just going
    to have to.

But it would have been nice to use the knife tool to cut up the
polygon/ngon like clay. Forming 2 or more objects from just one.

    Thanks.

    Awwww man… that just sucks… 🙁
Once again my creativity is blocked by technology.. 🙁

    Vision put on hold…. dang..

Guess I will have to figure out another way.
    Thanks anyways…

Thanks once again for your reply….

Put it this way… Forget the animation… Is it possible to split
the segmented cube into it’s pieces, like the image I have above
    through some sort of automation.

Thanks for your replies.. I know that I can make smaller cubes and
then animate them to form a large one. But, this is a test for
the final result of text breaking apart. And I’m not planning to
make hundreds of tiny cubes to form the text.

I have done this with Mograph… But the end result was way too clean.
Plus I really want to know if it is possible…

Here is a pic of what I want accomplished.. This has to be possible.
I know there must be a way.. If not in C4d then maybe with a plugin
    or through another 3d program.

Hey, I check for that and there is no option for that under Structure.
And to be quite honest I don’t think there is such a thing. At least
    in C4D R11. hmmm….

OBTW.. I don’t want it to break into planes… I want it to break
    into seperate objects.. 🙂

I still don’t get this.. How am I to divide a cube into many parts and as seperate objects? i.e. so that I can move the objects around.
Kind of like a transformers effect.
