The random appearance is created using the evolution parameter of Fractal Noise. If you select the fractal noise layer and press UU you’ll see all the parameters that have been adjusted. To get the boxes to line up with the grid just takes a little tweaking. I created the fractal noise map first. I used the Scale Width and Scale Height then the Turbulence Offset parameter. I then created the Grid to “fit” by adjusting the Height and Width parameters.

If you’re on a Mac try Screen Snapz Pro from Ambrosia Software.

These tutorials focus on the new features in Version 4+ of 3D Invigorator Pro. These features aren’t available in version 3. Sorry about that but hopefully it will give you a great reason to upgrade 🙂

Check the Time Controls palette and see whether the “From Current Time” option is checked. This will override the work area preview.

The book After Effects Magic v5 had a great tutorial on how to do this using expressions and displacement mapping. Don’t know if it’s in the latest version…

It’s a good idea to check the previous posts… you can find an answer to the same question much of the time. This is a quote from Matt Rhodes taken from down the page a little
” In version 3 of ProAnimator, the background is for alignment/placement only. It does not get rendered into the final output.
In version 4 (coming soon!), you are given the option to composite the background image into the final rendering. ”

Oh yeah… you can also try Channel Blur and adjust the Alpha Blurriness setting.
