In the timeline above the switches panel there are a bunch of buttons for enabling things like motion blur and frame blending, the far left button is the “Live Update” button, toggle that and you should be fine.

  • I was looking at that this morning (Oz time) and can’t believe how simple the answer is 😛
    Nice one Dan.

I don’t know of any way to make the flag bunch up, I’m pretty sure this isn’t possible.

  • Yes that also works because Adjustment Layers are rendered last in the rendering order. If you wanted to put any layers below the Adjustment Layer that weren’t affected by it you would have to precompose the Adjustment Layer with only the layers you wanted to affect. Glad it worked out for you 🙂

  • You don’t turn on the Adjustment layer switch for the layers you want to affect, you turn it on for the Adjustment layer that sits above those layers (which is on by default when you create an Adjustment layer from the menu). Turn it off for all other layers because that’s what’s making them dissapear – they themselves are not doing any adjusting – they are being adjusted. Also, masks on Adustment layers have no effect on the layers below. I would suggest you precompose the layers you want to affect by the mask (select them and choose LAYER > PRECOMPOSE) then apply your mask to the new precomp.

The last frame of your precomp is not in fact a frame at all. By default, compositions start at frame 0 so the last frame in a 1 second composition (PAL in my case) is frame 24. If you are using your expression applied to time remapping you should set a keyframe one frame before the second time remapping keyframe then delete the existing second keyframe. This is a little gotcha when time remapping precomps, it doesn’t happen for footage files.

You can’t make 3D text directly in AE. There are a few plugins but 3D Invigorator is the best choice in my opinion. The install disk comes with a 30 minute tutorial that will have you up and running quickly.

Under the Advanced settings try the RAMP UP setting and rather than animating the START or END parameters for the RANGE SELECT use OFFSET instead. This will give you a smooth transition between the starting and ending values of your choosen Animator Property (in your case, Position).
