How about using the FLM format. You can save out your comp as a filmstrip (with Alpha) and open that up directly in Photoshop.

This isn’t normal behaviour. Have you tried restarting AE? If that doesn’t work try deleting your preference file and restart.

It only became an issue as of v6 when the ability to apply effects and masks to collapsed layers was introduceds. Most of the time it’s extremely useful, like when you want to color correct, apply a blur or a quick mask to a collapsed layer.

I love particleIllusion but I think you may need Particular for this one because with Particular you can have layers such as a logo “emit” particles. So in your case the logo would be the emitter of the leaves. You set up the logo to emit the leaves then reverse your keyframes so that the leaves “form” the logo. Check out the “Emitting Particles from Layers” section of the Help files that come with Particular for an explanation of this technique. To access the files, click on Options at the top of the Effect Controls window (once you have applied Particular to your layer), then click “help” at the bottom left of the resulting Options window.

Your are coming up against one of the limitations of continuously rasterizing/collapsing transformations. When you apply an effect to a layer that has this switch active the render order which is normally MASKS, EFFECTS, TRANSFORM changes to TRANSFORM, MASKS, EFFECTS. This is why the Write On (EFFECT) is not scaling (TRANSFORM) with the wavy line. If you disable the CT switch everything should look fine, but of course you need the line to look sharp when it’s scaled… Try doing the scaling to the layer in one extra large comp, then precompose and apply the effect to the new precomp.
The issue applying effects and masks to collapsed layers (and collapsing 3D layers) is one of the more complicated to get your head around, even advanced users come up against problems with this. I’ve personally requested Adobe provide a better explanation and give workarounds for this issue in future manuals/online help.

RAM previewing plays back audio and video, if you’re not hearing audio check the Time Controls palette, the audio icon should be UNCHECKED, if it’s checked you won’t hear audio. There’s no way to extend the control click and hold loop that I know of. Base 30 just means that’s the timecode base you have selected in your project settings, it doesn’t relate to the loop. Why do you need to increase that loop anyway? One thing to keep in mind is that if you zoom in on the timeline then try control dragging the time indicator you’ll more easily be able to hear the audio as it is scrubbed (it won’t skip like it does when you’re zoomed out).

You can see the audio waveform by selecting the layer with the audio and hitting the L key twice. You can scrub the audio by holding down the command key (control on PC) and dragging the time indicator back and forth. You can preview just the audio (from the time indicator forward) by hitting the period (.) key on the keypad, while listening you can hit the asterisk (*) key on the keypad to set layer markers to the beat (they will appear when the preview stops). Make sure you have the layer you want the markers to appear on selected first. You can increase the length of your audio preview in the Preferences, look in the Preview section. If you hit Option (Alt on PC) )Period on the keypad you’ll preview the work area. Hope that helps a little 🙂
