Matt can probably answer this from a technical perspective but I have to ask are you using After Effects? If you are why not place your images in a precomp, do your dissolves between the images, then apply the 3D Flag effect to the precomp layer in the main comp. That way you only have one 3D flag effect to deal with, less layers overall and greater flexibility. Let us know if this doesn’t make sense or you need more help 🙂

  • You’ll need to either auto-trace (CS2 Live Traces is supposed to be good at this) or use the Pen tool to manually recreate the logo. You may want to try creating a path from the selected logo in Photoshop first then exporting the paths into Illustrator and cleaning them up there. I’m afraid there is no easy way.

There are two glass material swatches in the material presets panel, one is green and one is blue. I usually start with one of these and play around with the transparency settings, color and reflectivity. I’ll email that file, you may find it less smoky if you decrease the Reflectivity setting. You’ll need to install the custom Graphic Skyground_grey.tga file into the Environments folder also.

I guess you’ve tried hitting the Spacebar? If you have, just wait a while, hopefully it will register and the RAM preview will stop. If that doesn’t work maybe you can take a screenshot of the effect controls window and timeline to remind you of what you did in case you have to rebuild it. This has saved me in the past 🙂

Whilst inside 3D Invigorator Pro just hit Command (mac) Control (windows) S to save the scene, then you can open that scene up in Pronimator using the OPEN SCENE command. It doesn’t bring in any animation however. You can also choose to export the selected 3D object as a .ZXO file. To do this, select the object, click on the Object Popup menu and choose Export 3D model. Hope that helps 🙂

Take a look at my most recent post on motionworks.com.au. I created some glass text for Bio Close-up. If you like the look I’ll email you the Object Style.

Have you considered using Shatter? How about Particular from Trapcode?

    Hey Wes,
Setting the comp to 50fps enables you to see both fields as frames in the comp window. Doing this and rendering out to 25fps with fields is a technique I use often when rotoscoping. So I’m not sure if this is the issue…
