Precompose your layer (LAYER > PRECOMPOSE) using the LEAVE ALL ATTRIBUTES option. This will move your layer into it’s own comp and leave the mask in your present comp. Now you can do the rotation in the precomp and the mask will not rotate in the main comp. Does that make sense?

Hi Phil,
maybe you could check that your footage is lower field first (as indeed it should be). To do this hold down the Option key (mac) or Alt (windows) and double click the footage in the Project window to open the Footage window. Hold down Command (mac) or Control (pc) and use the arrow keys to step through the footage. If the movement moves forward one frame on one click and back on the next click, the fields are incorrectly interpreted. If so, change the interpretation and rerender.JD

I had a feeling it was fields versus frames that was causing this 🙂

January 9, 2006 at 8:22 pm in reply to: Importing 3D Text and Objects into After EffectsYou’ll need 3D Invigorator Pro to do this or the new Proanimator for AE. Check out https://www.zaxwerks.com. You can either import your model but better yet make your text inside the Invigorator and avoid Max altogether.

Pretty hard to nail this one without actually seeing it. If you render without fields does the problem go away? How about trying a different codec? Did you try deleting your preferences and restarting?

Select the footage you want to place on the billboard as your “target”. Take a look at “Tracking motion to apply to other footage or images (Pro only)” in the Help files for helpful info.

With an image map you select an image from your hard drive. With a layer map you use an AE layer. Check out my tutorial on layer maps and it may clear some things up for you:

I had this problem once as well. Check that you’ve got the latest version of 3D Flag. You can download it from the Zaxwerks site. If you do and still have the problem let us know.

There is probably a very specific way that someone more versed in expressions could suggest but one way to limit the returned value is to use a simple math modifier. Here I’ve halved the return value for the Y property by adding “/2”
[position[0], just[1]/2]
