If you are working 1.85 at 4K, you would want to work at 4096*2214. If you worked at 2160 that would mean they are masking the sides, not sure why anyone would want to do that today.

Because of the discrepancies, I would just call up and ask exactly what they want from you in terms of graphics. Make sure you get exact specifics and then I would immediately send them a test render and have them confirm that it’s correct.

I can tell you from experience that even if you are right and send them the correct aspect ratio, if they didn’t know really what they wanted, you will be the one doing extra work.

There are a bunch of tutorials that show the expressions needed to do that. I googled automatic text box, anyone of them should explain it pretty well.

This one explains it pretty well.

When I freelanced, since it was work for hire, I had no problem giving the client all the work that made up the project. They were paying for it, so project files, assets, renders, whatever, they can have it. 90% of the time they didn’t have either the plugins or expertise to update the work and would come back to me anyway.

Of course anything you have bought extra for a project, you probably legally can’t give them, so you should keep that in mine too.

  • It still works for me, just have to have the preview window in bridge open.

I don’t know anything about programming either. I bought both of these books(link below) and they are very helpful. If I get stuck, I post questions to the Expression forum, there are some very smart people there. Finally, I keep a document of any good expressions I create or come across.

The expression will produce the same result over multiple renders.

Expressions can take up a lot of time when rendering. If you are good with the results, you can always right click on properties with expressions, go to the keyframe asst and “Convert Expressions to Keyframes”. That should save you a ton of time.

If you need to adjust later, you can delete those keyframes and turn the expression back on and make changes.

If it takes 15 hours to render that way-assuming everything is okay with your computer-I’d render everything to a PNG sequence. That way if you need to replace anything, have missing frames, you can just fix the areas where there are issues. That way you don’t have to rerender the entire thing every time. Once everything is all good, you can take your PNG sequence and rerender it to an animation codec.

Thank you George for taking a deep dive into this. I’m an After Effects guy from before it was an Adobe product and been dragged into learning 3D and it’s been a steep learning curve, the first two dimensions are easy, that third one is tricky. Appreciate the explanation too.

The materials were made from the folks at Greyscale Gorilla. I really like them, but even after watching hours and hours of their tutorials, I find tweaking them is a real chore.

In your picture, where the splice plate is in the gutter, you can see this double white, where the gutter is behind the splice plate. Then there is the dark stripe where the two gutters don’t connect. That’s the transparency I’m seeing.
