the pen tool creates masks in AE. If you want, you can create your mask, press “M” and then just set the mask mode to “none”, then it will just be a path you can use to for your effect.

To copy and paste, you can only do one layer at a time.
If you put each path on a different layer in illustrator, you could bring the file into AE as a composition, then you could use the Layer > “auto trace” or perhaps “create shapes from vector layers”. Then you could add a stroke to the shapee and use a “trim paths” to animate the stroke of the layer.

YOu need to go to Window > Stabilize and stabilize around that point.

Try decreasing your font size to something like 90 or so, then create a new text box and type in your text. Or you could press shift+cntl+alt+t to make a text layer and start typing, that doesn’t have the bounding box properties that creating with the text tool has.

How about layering each element in different positions in 3D space, but scaled, so straight on, it looks like a normal card. Then while moving a camera, that reveals the 3D, stop swapping in & out different layers by having them moving in and off screen.

Place a mask around the text layer, keyframe the mask. Or just use the black solid above the text layer you already created as a track matte. Select the text layer, press f4 to reveal track mattes, place the text directly below the black layer in the layer stack and change the track matte to “alpha matte”.

What do you mean by “export” it. AE only renders final files to 2D video. It doesn’t create a 3D file that you can import into StudioMax or Cinema4D for further refinement.
