You do that to a solid over the layer you want to reveal and apply it as a track matte. A null isn’t anything but a controller, can’t apply effects to it.

There is one other think you could try, but it will require a bit of work too.

Make a duplicate of each layer. Now select the pan behind tool(next to the mask shape tool). Now you can move the layer behind the mask with moving the mask. So take original and move it to cover say the top half of your video, copy 1 can cover the bottom half of the video. Will probably require some time so they don’t over lap, though with screen mode selected that probably wont be that big of a deal.

Sorry I didn’t think of this before.

It looks like you have your mask/glow on a solid, right? That solid isn’t the same size as your composition and more importantly the size that you need to cover your light saber.

Create new solid and push the “make comp size” button. Then you will have to redo your work.

You could try selecting the solid and pushing “cntl-alt-f” this will resize the solid to the comp size, but it will stretch it out and move everything around.

There is also a “grow bounds” effect. I rarely use that, but you might be able to place it above your glows increase the size by 60 pixels and that might do the trick.

    Good luck,

    Hello Todd,

Just had to respond to your post. I’d stongly listen to your partner’s sister-in-law(CPA on the phone), but I might be a bit biased though as she’s my Mom. Funny I talked to her yesterday and she didn’t mention she’d talked to Phil.

    Sure is a small world.

My boss pays for everyone to get flu shots. We’re probably the healthiest company around. Ounce of prevention is a heck of lot cheaper than a pound of cure.

  • Layer>Time>Enable Time Remapping.

Set a keyframe at the position you want the rewind to occur(Keyframe 1), then set a keyframe at the rewind point. Grab the rewind keyframe and the last keyframe(at the end of the layer) and move both past Keyframe 1. This will give make the video back-up, then play again at normal speed.

I don’t know about Vegas, but QT doesn’t play DVD’s. The MPEG is transcoded and the files are converted to VOB’s on the disc. First check and see if this DVD will play in a standard DVD player. If it does than you know that it’s been burned okay, and the issue is the computers that are trying to play it. Try playing a store bought DVD in those computers-anything. It sounds like the computers just don’t have a DVD player installed.
