First thought is make sure you rendering to a lossless format. I prefer animation, it’s large though, there are a others, some with a a little loss, but really only noticable to people who are really looking.
I’m not a FCP guy, so maybe those guys might have a few more tips.

If you are refering to layers 8 and 11. Layer 8 is at .7 Z, and 11 is at 0. In Z space as you progress in positive numbers the items will move away from you, negative numbers bring them closer.
Layer stack doesn’t matter here, you have placed layer 8 behind layer 11, if you make layer 8’s Z position 0. It should move in front of layer 11.

First I would probably make a comp twice as wide as I needed and create my picture montage. Creating it so that it fills the entire screen.
I would drop that in my final comp, underneath the logo layer. Now I would animate the logo from completely zoomed in(so one letter completely fills the screen) to it’s final position. Now take the precomped photos and scale them down to a little larger than the logo and parent them to the logo. Change the pictures track matte to the logo.
Last I would duplicate the logo over the other two layers and animate it’s opacity over the time the logo is scaling.

Top layer will be the foreground objects masked. Middle layer is the green screen footage. Bottom layer is the video again, no masks, the background.

Dave, I think she’s refering the block 3d look of the text.
You can make that by creating a text layer, change it to a 3d layer and add the expression “position+[(index+1),(index+1),(index-1)*1] ” to the position. Now just duplicate the layer 15 to 20 times. Then just take your duplicates and change the color to black.
I made a quick project to demonstrate. I precomped the text, so if you need to change it, you only have to change the precomped text, rather than every layer. Also added a controller to change the color of the shadows.

To create a larger circular wipe though, you could just create a solid and add the “Generate > Cicle” effect. Now use that layer as an alpha map for whatever you want to be revealed. And if you are going to use for a map burn, you could add a “Stylize > Roughen Edges” and that will help it look like paper being burned away.

I’m not going to sugar-coat this at all, it’s not easy to pull off and it can be very labor and computer processing intensive(everything is doubled). Couple of links that go explain it in much greater detail.

A little more information would be helpful. What is the resolution of the project(HD, SD). What codec did you use that came out at 8 gig?
Also, since you are looking for a small file size, should we assume this is for web delivery?
