    Hi there,

I am trying to create a transition in After Effects CS5 that recreates the effect of old paper burning from the centre of the composition frame outwards to reveal another layer underneath…

My plan is to start with a transition wipe that is some kind of expanding circle, however, I can’t find a transition to do this! Can anyone please help with any suggestions on how to build this effect?

Would very much appreciate a quick reply!

    Thanks in advance.

There is a cow tutorial that does the old Bonaza fire thing:

To create a larger circular wipe though, you could just create a solid and add the “Generate > Cicle” effect. Now use that layer as an alpha map for whatever you want to be revealed. And if you are going to use for a map burn, you could add a “Stylize > Roughen Edges” and that will help it look like paper being burned away.

Thanks, John, appreciate the help. Think I worked it out in the end.
