January 3, 2012 at 4:30 pmDave, I think she’s refering the block 3d look of the text.
You can make that by creating a text layer, change it to a 3d layer and add the expression “position+[(index+1),(index+1),(index-1)*1] ” to the position. Now just duplicate the layer 15 to 20 times. Then just take your duplicates and change the color to black.
I made a quick project to demonstrate. I precomped the text, so if you need to change it, you only have to change the precomped text, rather than every layer. Also added a controller to change the color of the shadows.

January 4, 2012 at 2:56 pmYou can actually fake this look with a drop shadow a lot of the time.

January 4, 2012 at 3:44 pmyou can also use the drop shadow effect setting the distance to around 1 and then just duplicating the effect until you get the depth that you want.
the only advantage of this method over john’s is that it keeps it all on one layer so manipulation (changing position, font, etc.) is a bit easier and the comp is a bit simpler if you already have a bunch of layers.
