No, you would want to do whatever moves you are going to do in C4D, render out the movie and bring it into AE.

C4D and AE work well together and you can export and import camera data, nulls, planes from one app to the other. Then when you create your 3d animation in C4D, you can bring it into AE for final composite and have the camera and it’s keyframes already working in AE.

There are a couple of plugins you need to do the export/import and they are here:

Some tutorials that will explain the process better than I can:

Glad you got it figured out. Hope it was before the re-install.

  • In your file you are only keyframing the text, not the null. I keyframed the null and it worked fine.

If it wasn’t clear, this is an expression. Set your first and last keyframe say to rotation 0 and 360, alt-click and apply the expression

    loopOut(“continue”)

and your layer will continue along the same velocity for the duration of the comp.

You might want to try deleting your preferences before you do a total re-install. If you’re on a Machold down the Command + Option + Shift keys as you start After Effects, this will allow you to delete the corrupt preference file. On a PC its Control + Alt + Shift.

Parent your layers to the null & open up the rotation properties of both the layers and the null. Alt-click the layer and pick whip to the nulls rotation, then just put a -(minus sign) in front of the expression.

It should look something like this:

    -thisComp.layer("Null 1").transform.rotation

Its a lens flare, but not one of the standard ones that comes with AE. I use Optical Flares from Video CoPilot.

Here’s a tutorial on the cow on creating them just using the tools within AE. If you google “Lens Flare”, “After Effects” and “tutorial” you will a lot more creative ways of creating free lens flares.

I don’t know how you are really going to fix that, most importantly, the lighting doesn’t match at all. The shadows are going in two different directions, he should of been keyed from the back, not the front. If you can’t fix that issue, it will never look correct.

90% of my work will be a single shot, so I’ll export from the Avid same as source, work in AE and render to one of the Avid Codecs. I use this method because my Avid and my fastest AE system aren’t on the same machine. This also frees up the Avid system if another editor needs to use it.

Occasionally I’ll get to use the pro-import though. The other day I had to convert a cuts only + titles project into Japanese. So I used the AAF export, used pro import and had everything perfectly placed. Just had to change my english titles I created in Avid to Japanese titles— Avid wouldn’t work with the Japanese fonts correctly. Finally I rendered out just the titles to one long Avid DNxHD 145 with alpha, dropped into the sequence and was done.
