Can you make tiff of your final logo, put that in your comp, enanble 3d, and place it so it would reflect off your shape layer? Then you could set the properties of the tiff layer to be “reflection only” so it doesn’t show up in the comp, but just reflects off your shape. You could parent it so when you rotate the shape layer, the reflection will move with it.

It will be a large file, but you won’t lose anything when you re-edit the file.

Are you doing the edit or is someone else? If it’s someone else, then ask the editor what they prefer.

I work with Avid and I’m comfortable rendering to the Avid codec’s for my work, it’s not “lossless” but I can’t see any degradation.

If you need the best, render to a lossless codec, like Quicktime Animation, or .AVI. If you don’t need audio, you could all render to a Tiff or PNG sequence. All of these are going to produce extremely large files that depending on your edit system will probably need to be transcoded at some point before final delivery.

You really don’t want to change the scale(or really do any transformations) of the layer with 3d stroke. You want to do those transformations.

Without knowing the exact specifics of your track, I can’t tell you how to do this step by step, but what you need to do is to link that tracking data to the the different properties under the transform pull
down within stroke. If it’s easy, it might be as simple as enabling expressions and pick-whipping to the null’s tracking data.

You could take each composition and drag it on to the new comp button. Then use the audio tool or the stereo effect to adjust the level of the entire composition all at once. Press the “.” to preview audio the audio and you should be able to get everything to acceptable levels.

October 18, 2012 at 11:47 am in reply to: Making Particular 3D

Particular projects 3D on it’s plane(generally a solid) and for all intensive purposes, it is 3D, but as you found out, you can’t move or rotate it’s solid or the illusion is destroyed. To keep particular 3d you have to work withing particular’s own settings to change location or rotation.

With Particular you either need to adjust the values of your emitter, or twirl open the world transform group and change your position/rotation there.

Post a link or the clip here. If it’s a rather long clip, specify the time code where the effect occurs. With the amount of traffic this forum recieves I doubt it will be long before you have an answer.

AE doesn’t haven actions. To accomplish something like that, you would have to write a script to execute those commands.

Go to the Animation in the menu bar and you will find Browse Presets. Also if you have the Effects & Presets panel open there is a flyout you can press where you can access the Browser.

Here’s a simple way to create smoke using the basic AE tools – How to Make Smoke/Fog

If you have Trapcode Particular(you can download a free trial), you can create 3D smoke/fog that will react to AE’s cameras.

At around 31:00, Andrew Kramer use particular to create 3D fog in this tutorial. Also if you google “3D Fog” “Particular” you will find a lot of tutorials that can show you how to do it.
