I just wanted to say congratulations to Boris and the Media 100 team
not only for getting Media 100 back on its feet and to release Version 12 –
no mean feat in its own right

but also to say thanks because you have allowed a whole bunch of people to keep using
    what they love and enjoy

    fwiw
i edited a documentary which was shot in kosovo and needed to be translated and sub titled for broadcast for an english language audience. it made life – easier – to make a timecode display copy of the final edit to ensure that the words match up with the sub-titles other wise you will spend hours doing it as a hit and miss operation with your translator.

or if you need to translate before putting titles on, dub your sound grabs ex wild material to say dvd with a t/c display and add sub titles when putting required clips into timeline
    hope that helps

and if your job and company depend upon the outcome, double check the translation before you commit to dvd duplication. chinese is a language of nuance and you need to be right 🙂

    good luck

May 13, 2007 at 10:51 pm in reply to: How to handle 200 Hours of footage?

    i’m with bogie an
please explain to your director that by virtue of DV recording in its own codec the material is already digitally stored- on those camera tapes. burn some dvds or vhs clones. and ask them to do a paper cut.
by the way how are you going to deal with the video head servicing bill just from running 200 hours through your machine?
or take steve’s approach. and say “sure no problem”, ask the director to rent the deck and the hard drive and hope that you make as much money as the rental companies – but i doubt you will

sure walter. i agree the site is pretty lean. i was just putting up the post so people who may be editors now, may expand their 2D or 3D capabilities in future. who knows which way workflows will go next?

September 13, 2005 at 9:30 pm in reply to: Boris FX aquires media100!

Of course nothing has been finalised in the purported purchase of M100 by Boris FX.
There of course many synergies between the companies, many smiles about relinking old employees with M100 and shared paths.

I’m sure we all hope Boris takes charge of one of the few NLE’s that provides competition to FCP.

As we move forward i would like to suggest to Boris, as they do due diligence on OBase’s Media100 unit, to include several key moves with any new ownership. They may only return investment funds and not make a deal of money for the bottom line but they would do wonders for rebuilding the goodwill of a once proud brand.

One would be to Immediately release an OMF option created by Diaquest for free to all users who stayed with M100 Mac HD during the tough times. Do an amazing deal on the Software only licence to existing users.

Then aim to release Vers 4 for 844x in 2006. Perhaps even combine it with completing work on an Auto Duck plug in. This will allow 844 users to keep working thru 2006-7 and would add inter-operability between other NLE’s which has been long called for.

I think we all know it’s too complicated and too expensive to take 844 any further with hardware but Vers 4 was a few months from release and many existing users actually paid for it with their platinum contracts.

Dont be shy either in asking this very loyal and valuable resource, the Cow M100’ers
what they think, want or dont want. Actually we know what we dont want.
    More of we’ve just had!
