    Hi Mike,

I’ve got Quicktime version 7.6 (492). I haven’t tried it with the MP4’s yet but other renders (to MPEG2 for example) are no longer clipped.

Thank again for all the trouble you went to.

I’ll give those MP4 settings a try. Mike, the clipping problem is supposed to be solved if you have the latest version of Quicktime.

    Thanks again,

    John

    Hi Mike,

That’s a very nice offer– thanks. Here’s a link to the files– scroll down to the bottom of this page:

Are the files from a Canon 5Dmk2 by any chance? There’s a known issue that the file header is 30fps but the video is actually recorded at 29.97 fps. This comes up when you try to sync up with an external audio source, like on a music video.

    Hi Mike,

On a related issue, is it possible to automatically have Vegas render to the same compression format as the source file? (In other words, pick a format and do a smart-render.)

I’m thinking this probably isn’t possible because I’m using Canon 5Dmk2 files which are a flavor of h.264 and although Vegas can read them, I haven’t found a way to smart-render them. I don’t think the option is listed.

Is there an add-on codec I can buy?

    Thanks,

Do you have all your RAM available or some some tied up elsewhere– for example in the Dynamic RAM Preview setting?

I’ve solved some problems by freeing up all my RAM.

    Hi Mike,

    Thanks for the great information.

I’m new to Vegas and am curious why there’s a fade-out by default when you split an audio event. I noticed that when I had inadvertently split a music track several times, there was an audible “bump” where the splits occurred, even though no frames were removed. I’m just trying to learn more about audio editing, which I’m told is a specialty area for Vegas.

    Thanks again,

    John

March 11, 2009 at 5:51 pm in reply to: Vegas is Crashing with too many 5D Mark II files??

    Hi Dale,

The 5dmk2 files are h.264 and Vegas can read them but it struggles with them. I convert them inside Vegas to MainConcept MPEG-2 with the same attributes (1920×1080 30fps progressive). Vegas handles the MPEG-2 files really well and they’re easy to edit.

To make the conversion easier, I use a batch region-naming script and a batch render script. I can start this going with a lot of files and it’s done overnight, with the new files having the same name as the original files. You may have to limit the number of h.264 files you put on the timeline at one time if Vegas crashes from the sheer quantity (although I’ve never had a problem when all I’m doing is a straight conversion/render).

The resulting files look good and can be burned directly to Blueray.

I’m new here myself, but I think this will work:

Select all the events, right-click, and under “Switches” select “Disable Resample.”
