  • Can’t load all clips in Vegas

Hey, I just started working on my first larger project on Vegas.
It’s about 30 minutes long and I filmed it with an SD camcorder, the Sony DCR-DVD505.
So, when I imported the files on to Vegas, the only option was to have it imported as a .mpg file, which I’ve heard is not ideal for editing? But the thing is, I’ve used .mpg files for smaller projects and it has worked.
Well, my problem is: I can’t import all my files into the Project Media tab. I’ve tried it many times, and it seems to only let me put on 52 clips (I have 88) and after that, it just goes to the not responding status and I’m forced to close it.
I don’t think my computer is the problem… It’s pretty new.
    Intel Core-2 Quad Q8200 2.33Ghz
    6GB RAM
    1TB Hard-Drive
    ATI Radeon HD 4850 512mb
Also, I’ve read through these forums and some people suggested unchecking the ‘Close media when not active application’ or something like that, and it still held the same problem.
My solution right now, is to work on it in seperate parts, which… works, but obviously not ideal.
So, if anyone has a suggestion or a solution, it would be much appreciated!
Thanks for reading through this wall of text and your help!

Which version of Vegas? This is a known issue in 7b/c and 8.0a

Oh, sorry I forgot to mention it.
I have Sony Vegas Pro 8.0c (Build 260).

Try to import the last 52 clips in small increments (3-4) into new Projects each. That way you may find an offending clip that screws up the import.

I have tried that… I don’t think it’s a specific clip’s problem though. When I initially load 53 clips, it works fine for a few minutes and then stops responding. But, when I open Vegas again, I let everything load, let it build the peaks and when I go to project media, and try to let all the thumbnails load, all except one will load the picture and that is when it freezes. Also, I’ve tried opening it more than once, and the one that doesnt load is just the one that happens to be the last one to load, in other words, it’s not the same thumb not loading every time.
Sorry if my explaination is really unclear and I really appreciate your help.
    Thanks

Do you have all your RAM available or some some tied up elsewhere– for example in the Dynamic RAM Preview setting?

I’ve solved some problems by freeing up all my RAM.
