I have used this program for over a year and have never encountered this problem previously… Now many of my video and audio events are turning PINK for some reason. Also, when I click and drag one event, it connects with a bunch of others and won’t let me move it. When I delete a pink event, it deletes everything. When I delete an event that is not pink, it will fuse the audio events below it into fade in/out’s.

I just want to delete and shorten my events freely without messing up my entire project.

I am sick of this!! I have a project due on Thursday and I can’t even use the program!

Based on what you’ve described, my guess is that you’ve accidentally enabled and/or disabled some features. The question is which one(s).

“Now many of my video and audio events are turning PINK for some reason”

Pink means that the audio and video events aren’t synced with each other.
Did you accidentally turn Quantize to Frames off or turn Ignore Event Grouping on?
If so, turn it back on/off immediately.
To re-sync an event, right-click either the audio or video and select Synchronize – By Moving.

“Also, when I click and drag one event, it connects with a bunch of others and won’t let me move it”

The events could be grouped (right-click the event – Group – select option) or locked (right-click the event – Switches – Lock) together.

“When I delete an event that is not pink, it will fuse the audio events below it into fade in/out’s.”

Is Ripple Edit turned on? If so, turn it off and only use it when necessary.

Hopefully this gives you a few things to check out.
It’s past my bedtime but I’ll check back in the morning to see how you made out.
    Good luck with it.

Thank you Mike — I did the switches you suggested and things seem to be working properly again. I will have to save this message in case I make the same mistake. Thanks again!!

Mike has hit the nail right on the head Amiley…..
You indeed have these features disabled/enabled.
So toss your frustration out the window…Go through what
Mike has pointed out and you will be back in business.

Amiley, thanks for letting me know.
Out of curiosity, was it one specific switch or a combination of them?

Back again, it seems that while things are running smoother, it’s still turning the audio tracks into fade in/outs when I split the corresponding video above it. Auto ripple is still turned off, and I haven’t turned it on since fixing it.

Also, is there a way to turn off the pink “out-of-sync” feature entirely? When I delete only a portion of the sound from a video it claims that the entire clip is now “out-of-sync”. This is bothering me because I used to do this all the time with no trouble.. Now I am spending twice as long editing because I have to right click and sync all of the annoying pink events.

It doesn’t seem to be locking clips together anymore so I can drag them freely back and forth, and I can now delete the sound without deleting the clip too. So I have made some progress at least.

“…it’s still turning the audio tracks into fade in/outs when I split the corresponding video above it.”

Do you mean the tiny split-second fade that gets created?
    Options – Prefs – Editing.
Quick fade length for audio events defaults to 10 ms. (1/200 second) but can be dropped as low as 1 ms.

“Also, is there a way to turn off the pink “out-of-sync” feature entirely?”

    Not that I’m aware of.
This “feature” was added recently and, to be honest, I like it.

“When I delete only a portion of the sound from a video it claims that the entire clip is now “out-of-sync”.”

When I do that, I click the new audio & video clips and “group” them.
    No more “out-of-sync” message.

“This is bothering me because I used to do this all the time with no trouble..”

Was this with a previous version?
AS I said, this “feature” was recently added (Vegas 7?) so you never had to deal with it before.

    Hi Mike,

    Thanks for the great information.

I’m new to Vegas and am curious why there’s a fade-out by default when you split an audio event. I noticed that when I had inadvertently split a music track several times, there was an audible “bump” where the splits occurred, even though no frames were removed. I’m just trying to learn more about audio editing, which I’m told is a specialty area for Vegas.

    Thanks again,

    John

Because without a 10ms fade out, you’d have truncated audio with pops all over the place. You WANT those fades. They’re very short. You can sometimes get away with 2ms fades, but not often.

I have Vegas Movie Studio 6.0 …. Do you think reinstalling the program would work ?
