You could have a bad tape as well, or your HDSR could need maintenance.
I’ve never heard of just audio dropping out because of drive speed, but I could definitely be wrong.

Nope. Just grab your blade tool and zoom in as far as you can. Click away.

[Graham Hutchins] “We would like to be able to deliver a 720p 16:9 master for both the resolution bump we’ll get for gfx and color”

Blowing up a 4×3 DV image to 720p does the opposite of a “resolution bump”. It degrades your footage and there’s really no way around it. 1080 would be even worse.

If you shot 1080p and then worked at 720 or even SD, then you could reframe, but you are talking about the opposite.

I agree with Dave. Satellite it or even maybe fiber feed if they are willing to pay.

You inquired earlier about how large studios are sending huge files to one another these days. Basically, you get what you pay for regarding internet service. We just upgraded to copper internet lines for $$$ but our upload speeds are about 2 MB a second. A gig only takes about 10 minutes or less to go up.

If you can find it… “Visualhub”.
They stopped making it a couple years ago I think but somebody you know might have a copy somewhere.
My favorite for making H.264 mp4’s.

[Graham Hutchins] ” Would a Teranex box be more appropriate?”

Yes and yes some more if you can afford it.
Not sure why you would want to go to from DV to 1080 and then back down to 720 though. If your final delivery is 720 then don’t worry about scaling up to 1080, it’s pointless.

    Thanks All.
I’ve been doing some research and talking with our engineer. AJA’s new Kona3G helps with this process as well as Neo3D from Cineform. You need plugins for both FCP and AE, but apparently once you have everything in place it works pretty well. That said, we are still going to wait until FCP goes 64-bit to implement any of this.

    Alrighty, here goes.

    Editing:
If I get provided left and right eye streams, is it safe to say that I can edit with them linked in FCP and just output a tape/pass for each eye? That part seems simple enough. I’m not in front of my machine right now, but I figure I can just link 2 video layers like I can stereo audio channels. I think if not then maybe I can do it via multicam or something like that.

    Creating 3D:
Let’s say I need to create my own 3D content. Not extrusions or anything, but just Z-displacement like you see on the green frames for 3D trailers. Basically separating the text from the background in 3D space that’s only visible when you are wearing 3D glasses.

Thanks all. I know this is just a shot in the dark but it can’t hurt to ask. Let me know if you need me to describe this in more detail.

    Best,
    Joey

Thanks for the speedy reply. Good to know there’s a fellow cow dealing with this.
    More questions to come tomorrow.

    ARGH. 1080i 59.94 for all the nit-pickers. 🙂
